Advertising & Monetization
Add owner-controlled ads, banners and affiliate promotions across user Start Pages.
Advertising Manager
DoorFall Start Page Script includes an Advertising Manager for site owners who want to monetize or promote content across their service.
Advertising Manager content is controlled by the administrator. Active placements can appear across users' Start Pages and are separate from normal widgets. Users cannot move, edit or remove owner-controlled advertising.
Available monetization types
AdSense / Ad code
Paste Google AdSense ad-unit code or supported third-party advertising code into Advertising Manager.
Use this when an advertising network supplies code that should be displayed on your users' Start Pages.
Banner
Upload your own banner image and enter its destination URL.
Banner campaigns can be used for:
- Direct advertisers or sponsors
- Your own products or services
- Affiliate offers
- Partner promotions
- Internal announcements with an external destination
Recommended banner size: 1200 × 200 px.
For faster page loading, optimize banner images before uploading and keep each image below approximately 300 KB when possible. JPG or WebP will usually be smaller than PNG for photographic or complex artwork.
Promoted / Affiliate link
Create a compact promoted link with:
- A title
- Destination or affiliate URL
- Optional short description
- Placement
- Display order
- Active/disabled status
This is useful when a full banner is unnecessary and you want a simple owner-controlled promotion.
Global Start Page placements
Advertising Manager currently provides these placement areas:
- Below Multi Search
- Above widget area
- Below widget area
An active item is displayed globally in its selected position on user Start Pages.
Because these are owner placements rather than widgets, they do not count against a user's widget limit.
Display order
Use Display order to control the order of multiple advertising items in the same placement.
Lower values appear before higher values. For example:
- Banner A — order
10 - Affiliate link — order
20 - Banner B — order
30
This makes it possible to run several promotions while keeping their order predictable.
Enable, disable and edit
Each monetization item can be edited, disabled or deleted from Advertising Manager.
Use Disable when you may want to reuse a campaign later. Disabled items remain in Admin but are not shown to users.
Use Delete when the campaign is no longer needed.
Impressions and clicks
DoorFall records impression statistics for active monetization items.
For banners and promoted/affiliate links, DoorFall also tracks clicks through the built-in redirect system.
Google AdSense and other advertising networks maintain their own advertising statistics and revenue reporting in the provider's account.
Test before launch
After creating an advertising item:
- Make sure it is Active.
- Choose the intended placement.
- Sign in with a normal user account.
- Open a Start Page and confirm the item appears in the correct location.
- For a banner or promoted link, click it and confirm the correct destination opens.
- Return to Advertising Manager and confirm statistics are being recorded.
Test both desktop and mobile layouts when possible.
Performance recommendations
Advertising images are loaded by every user who sees the placement, so image optimization matters.
For banners:
- Use the recommended
1200 × 200 pxproportions when suitable. - Keep the file below approximately 300 KB when possible.
- Prefer WebP or a well-compressed JPG for complex images.
- Avoid unnecessarily large source images.
- Test with more than one active banner if you plan to run multiple campaigns.
Owner control
Advertising Manager is designed for the owner of the DoorFall installation, not individual users.
The administrator decides which advertisements and promotions appear. Users continue to control their own widgets and Start Page personalization, while the owner retains control of global monetization placements.
This makes it possible to operate DoorFall as a white-label Start Page service and build a business model around advertising, sponsorships, affiliate promotions or the owner's own offers.
