Search

Search the web. Configure the search engine, placeholder text and whether results open in a new or the same tab.

What the Search widget does

The Search widget gives users a search box directly on their start page.

Add the widget

  1. Open the widget picker on the start page.
  2. Choose Search.
  3. Configure the search options.
  4. Save the widget.

Settings

  • Search engine — Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Brave, YouTube or Wikipedia.
  • Search box text — Changes the placeholder shown inside the search field.
  • Open results — Choose a new tab or the same tab.

Using the widget

Type a search phrase and submit it. DoorFall Start Page Script sends the query to the selected search provider.

TIPA general web search works well with Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo or Brave. Use YouTube or Wikipedia when the start page is intended for more specialized searching.

Example

For example, choose Wikipedia, set the search box text to Search Wikipedia, and choose New tab. Searching for Norway then opens Wikipedia results without replacing the start page.

If something does not work

Save the widget settings, refresh the start page and confirm the required values are still present. If this widget uses external data or a third-party service, a temporary service problem can affect this widget without affecting the rest of DoorFall Start Page Script.
